Blow out the stuffy post-Christmas cobwebs and enjoy an invigorating breath of fresh air in the Isle of Purbeck thanks to the dedicated volunteers of the Swanage Railway.
Heritage steam trains are operating daily between Norden, Corfe Castle, Harman’s Cross and Swanage from Friday, 27 December, 2024, to Friday 3 January, 2025, inclusive.
Half-price tickets for the eight-day period are available if purchased early on-line before Sunday, 15 December, 2024 – an adult return for £10, child return for £5 and a family return for £27.50. Under 5s travel free of charge.
There will be four steam trains operating each day between Friday, 27 December, 2024, and Friday 3 January, 2025, inclusive. You can view the detailed timetable at www.swanagerailway.co.uk/calendar.
New Year’s Day – Wednesday, 1 January, 2025 - will be the 53rd anniversary of the last British Rail passenger diesel trains running between Wareham, Corfe Castle and Swanage on Saturday, 1 January, 1972.
The Swanage branch line was officially closed by British Rail on the morning of Monday, 1 January, 1972, with seven miles of track lifted between Swanage, Corfe Castle and Furzebrook that summer.
The Swanage Railway is staging its annual Winter Warm Up special event on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, 4 and 5 January, 2025, where special fares and timetables apply.
