We look forward to welcoming you to Swanage Railway and have worked closely with Dorset Council to make your family day out a breeze. 

The council operate an award winning ample 350 space car park at Purbeck Park (next to Norden Station) situated adjacent to the A351 Wareham to Swanage main road. This is ideally placed to form the starting point to explore Corfe Castle, Swanage and Purbeck Park, which has its very own Swanage Railway station at Norden.

Sail to Purbeck! Yes you can drive your car onto the chain ferry at Sandbanks and sail across the mouth of Poole Harbour to access Swanage and Purbeck. Once the ferry has arrived at Studland from the chain ferry road you can drive directly to Norden or Swanage to park and access the railway easily as well as other local attractions.

Parking in Swanage can be limited, especially during the summer and regatta weeks. The easiest way to access Swanage is by parking at the Purbeck Park (Dorset Council operated) Car Park. Then take the train from our adjacent Norden station. Swanage Railway does not have its own car park in Swanage but there are several with the nearest Swanage Council main car park in Victoria Avenue (BH19 1PW), Long stay charges apply.

Harman’s Cross (BH19 3EB) makes an ideal starting point for walking tours of Purbeck. It has a 50 space public car park adjacent to the station (Council charges apply).

No parking is available at Corfe Castle and Herston stations which are accessable by foot only.  

By Train

The nearest National Rail station is Wareham, which is served by a half hourly service from London, Southampton, Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth. Trains are operated by South Western Railway.

By Bus

morebus run regular services to/from Swanage. All busses run to/from Swanage Railway station forecourt giving excellent access to our Ticket Office, Shop, Catering outlet and Trains.

By Water/Boat

Swanage has its own restored pier. Why not sail to Swanage, it is a short walk along the main Station Road shopping area to our station and use the railway to steam to Corfe Castle, or explore the area from Harman’s Cross?
