The Swanage Railway is an ideal destination for your next group visit and our friendly team can easily accommodate pre-booked groups of any size on our steam trains.

We can transport your party back in time, in reserved seating, during a memorable 6 mile journey through the beautiful Purbeck countryside.

Most of our trains are hauled by historic steam engines and link together a range of stations offering a wide variety of options to suit all ages and tastes. Our friendly staff, with extensive local knowledge, are always on hand.

Swanage Railway is easily accessible from the main A351 Wareham-Swanage road, with brown tourism signs directing you to Purbeck Park and our adjacent station at Norden. Purbeck Park provides ample coach and car parking with adjoining modern toilets and even a children’s play area plus step free access to our platform.

Swanage has a coach drop off/pick up point, adjacent to our railway station, with nearby long-stay parking.The Coach Pick Up Point in Gilbert Road makes an ideal collection and waiting area as your guests prepare for the return journey by coach or train.

Groups can travel to the unspoilt Victorian seaside town of Swanage which offers a safe bathing Blue Flag winning beach, access to the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Jurassic Coast”, and delightful promenade and a range of independent shops.

While at the station your guests can pick up a memento of their visit or a treat for loved ones in our extensive Gift Shop.

GROUP TRAVEL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Group bookings should be made well in advance of your travel date as some of our services are very popular and seating may not be available.

To qualify for group rates, a minimum number of 15 fare-paying passengers is required.  

Please book for the maximum expected number of passengers so that seating can be preliminarily reserved, and inform us of the final passenger count no later than 14 days prior to the date of travel.

It will be your responsibility to ensure that seating allocated on the basis of that information is occupied by Group members in compliance with applicable social distancing rules.  If the number finally travelling is less than the minimum, they can still do so but the fare payable will be the full rate.

After your booking has been made you will receive a letter or email of confirmation; please ensure that all information, including departure stations, dates and times are correct. Any errors or omissions must be brought to our attention as soon as possible to avoid your group’s disappointment.

A non-refundable deposit of £30 for under 49 passengers or £50 for 50 or more passengers of the total cost is required upon receipt of the confirmation letter or email unless otherwise stated. Cheques should be made payable to Swanage Railway Co. Ltd. or payment can be made by all major credit and debit cards, excluding American Express.

Cancellations can only be made in writing or by email at least seven days prior to your date of travel.

On your scheduled travel day please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the departure time to allow sufficient time to check-in and board. If you miss your booked train time the Swanage Railway cannot guarantee that your group will be able to travel. If you are arriving by coach please ensure that your coach driver is made fully aware of nearby set-down and pickup points.

Details of your reserved seating will be shown on your tickets.

Whilst most services are steam hauled, in the event of a failure or crew member not being available, the Swanage Railway reserves the right to substitute alternative motive power.  Pricing is not affected.

In accordance with our General Terms and Conditions the Swanage Railway reserves the right to alter, cancel or suspend services.
