Experience the amazing thrill, excitement and discovery of driving and firing your very own steam train on the Swanage Railway - enjoying an eleven-mile round trip through the beautiful Purbeck countryside.

Under the expert and friendly guidance of our drivers and firemen, participants drive the steam locomotive five and a half miles between Swanage, Corfe Castle and Norden and then fire the steam locomotive for the return trip; or vice-versa.

Our driver experience sessions last for about an hour on the footplate and are an ideal present for a special occasion or just for a memorable and unforgettable piece of self indulgence.

After the driver experience, participants are presented with a Swanage Railway goody bag which includes a framed certificate and a Swanage Railway Driver Experience mug.

There are photographic opportunities with the steam locomotive at Swanage and Norden stations for the family and friends of driver experience participants.

All driver experience trains begin and end at Swanage station and cannot be boarded anywhere else along the line.

Participants should arrive at Swanage station 30 minutes before their train departs and will be greeted by the friendly and informative driver experience co-ordinator.

Based at Swanage station, the experience will last approximately 60 minutes.

2025 Price £345.00.
